U N B U I L D I N G

Saturday 21 August – Sunday 17 October 2010

Opening Saturday 21 at 4pm

UNBUILDING began as a curatorial initiative of Wicklow County Council, starting in spring 2009 through a Curator-in-Residence programme led by appointed curator Clíodhna Shaffrey. The curatorial residency was designed by the local authority to support artists in new and innovative ways involving intensive discussion, collaboration and exploration of their practice within the context of the programme. The group of 11 artists and 3 curators have during the last year evolved their ideas through examing strands of interest that emerged in common creating a platform to showcase new work in a specially designed event for Mermaid Arts Centre.

UNBUILDING includes off-site projects, an architecturally designed space at Mermaid, over 8 exhibitions rotating weekly, House on Fire (an anonymous group experiment) and a programme of weekly talks, presentations, and screenings. The first in a series of Artist’s Talks begins on Thursday 26 August at 6pm.

Artists and curators include Pauline Cummins, Felicity Clear, Damien Flood, Cliona Harmey, Mary Kelly, Eilís Lavelle, Rosie Lynch, Bea McMahon, Sinead Ní Mhaonaígh, James Merrigan, Kate Minnock, Clíodhna Shaffrey, Tamsin Snow & Kate Warner.
